The visit to the house where Verdi lived for a long time and to
which he came back with great pleasure after his travels in Italy
and in Europe is a basic step to know Verdi thoroughly. Villa
Verdi in SantÕAgata, a small village in Villanova sullÕArda, is
the estate Giuseppe Verdi bought in 1848 and where he started
living in 1851 and that soon became his home. There, the most
famous Italian composer lived and worked, enjoying the isolation
necessary to his creative genius and his loath and reserved character.
The original country house bought by Verdi became in few years
the place where the aesthetic precepts of that time and of Verdi
himself found a perfect realisation which even at present every
attentive visitor can seize and admire. Villa Verdi today, preserved
as it was at the age of the great composer, is the best way to
understand the immortal spirit of two facets of Verdi: the genius
and the ordinary man.
